Located in Perth, Scotland, it is the central registrar for the breed, having been founded in 1890. It governs and regulates the breed. thus safeguards the purity of the Shetland Pony.	The Royal Highland Show This is the premier event in the United for the exhibiting and judging of Shetland Ponies. It takes place at Ingliston, outside Edinburgh in the month of June, each year.

New Zealand Shetland Pony Breeders Society Built along the lines of the Shetland Pony Stud Breeders Society in Perth, Scotland, this organisation was instituted in 1979 and has the soul purpose of maintaining purity within the breed in New Zealand through strict regulation.
